Here's the vote, keep in mind we are also deciding the Horde guild name (if we have one), so pick something that matches if you'd like them to match!

Vote for your top choice and post with your second choice in case there isn't a vast majority, we'll have another poll with the top 2 options.

I voted for the Sentinels of Avian.

My (close) second choice is the Avian Alliance.

Again, I am dying to move forward but I think this is a little premature. It also isn't moving the way we normally pick names (not that it necessarily has to).

All this vote for names being held in the public is ludicrous. Anyone can vote, even people who do not plan on playing WoW, even those who are not even part of the PA. Offical votes should be held in the more secure forums.

See my post in the horde name thread!

The foundation needs to be developed, the procedures as to how names will be chosen for the preliminary and find votes needs to be disclosed.

This whole naming scenario skinks of jumping the gun. Who said it was time to start a vote? Almost makes me think polling needs to be removed from this forum if it is not conducted in a more orderly way.

I guess I am having a hard time recognizing by what authority these name are being chosen, and this vote is being called into session.

I have to agree with Cyrus. He put it pretty well. Lets be a little patient, folks.

I understand where Cyrus and Cetera are coming from but one thing I feel pretty stongly about is the importance of avoiding too much government. We had a lot of people who put a lot of hard work into the development and execution of Avian Technology & Trade government. I appreciate all that's been done in that arena and please don't take what I'm saying as belittling their contribution and achievement.

WoW is a completely different game from SWG and the gameplay is completely different as well. When I think Star Wars, I think of combat but I also think of the political machinations of Coruscant, the multitude of planetary governors and the alliances that were hammered out throughout the OT, the prequels and all the EU books. When I think of Warcraft, I think of "Og smash humie!" and "Die, orc-spawn!" Sure, there may be a subtle layer of alliances in the game and there clearly is in the fiction but the focus is on action and conflict. Similarily, I hope to find the Warcraft government simple and very streamlined - three layers at the most.

I'm going to copy most of this post to another thread to begin governmental structure discussion.

I agree completely with your desire to have smaller government. I want smaller too for all the same reason you give in the latest few posts.

These vote threads are 0 government, not smaller. These votes are one mans itch, and they overlook the need for any form of planning. There needs to be a fair plan for gathering our choices, there needs to be a fair plan for voting. Procedures need to be made, and time periods for a vote need to be established. These vote threads are not planned, they are just an anxious itch… yet the look to be attempts at being official.

I am anxious, I am itching.... but things as important as the name we will go by need to be planned and executed professionally. We need a ruling system in place.... otherwise it is chaos. Right now Exar’s posts are chaos.

In 2001 when I found Avian, if they were as unprofessional as Exar is with these voting threads, I would not have joined this PA. Exar is not the WoW guild leader. His voting posts look to be the official vote. If they are not meant to be official, they need more explanation saying so; they need to be named to reflect so. If they are to be the official vote, then they look extremely poor.

Let's not start any tension over these votes

Consider them a straw poll for the masses. Plus they are taking place in the open (as you pointed out earlier) and do not necessarily reflect (just) Avian membership. But, it is worth gathering some ideas as we have no offical game government and WOW may come upon us very quickly.

If the game does get released before December, then we will be in a position to move forward on a name.

I'm very sorry for causing so much fuss, but really, this isn't that big of a deal...

If you feel like it really is, I have no qualms about stopping the poll and dropping this.

Are we planning on starting to work out a separate charter for a WoW guild? I apologize if this is the case, but I haven't heard a word about it.

I'm very sorry to hit such a nerve, I was simply trying to get an idea of what we would like to name ourselved, and then shoot for the stars.

Again, I apologize.

Cyrus, how soon can we get our own private WoW forum? Preferably listed under and indented under this one, if we can. As soon as that happens, I think we should elect a leader, and get things rolling.

Exar,

I don't think anyone meant anything against you, some simply felt the picking of a name came too quickly.

I've started another thread regarding WoW government primarily focusing on structure but I'm sure a WoW Charter is in order (may even be a thread by now, I just sat down :P) but again, my strong feeling is less is more!

Guys the CoB, Talon PMed me after chatting with Exar. Both of them wanted this thread locked until we develop some kind of leader position to properly collect voting options and to properly call official votes into order. They have already started working in the BoD to finish up the charter which would allow us WoW guys to choose a leader.

They said brainstorming for names is good and needs to be done, however posts like that need to be labeled and presented so as not to look like an official vote. i.e. so as to not confuse fools like me :D

One exists, actually two. I am waiting on Obo to get back to me about how to give you guys access like the other forums with the same access rules. I can give everyone access by hand, and I may just do that tonight... but in the long haul, we really need it added to the existing permission scripts.
