Should this be something we should look into?

Is it very expensive?

Wouldn't this make grouping so much better? Plenty of chat and no typing.

So damn curious was I, that I just did a little checking. I could rent a server for 10 bucks a month that can handle 15 people. The software is just a download and you need to buy a headset. That's about it I guess.

Anyone ever use this that can 'splain it a little better?

I have never used it server side... but I did use it for a time with a few guys in Avian. I forget who was hosting the server, it was someone outside the PA, I think.

It was great from what I could tell. What I liked was the fact that you could open sub channels under your main channel... that way you can have you basic Avian channel, plus you can have additional channels for groups so that you do not have to hear my group playing in Ironforge if you are getting it on in Booty Bay.

Personally I liked the feature "press to talk'. With it you have to press a key for your mike to take input. To me this is great because no one wants to hear you dog barking or your wife bitching. If the mic was always on the guys in the channel would hear everything. With "press to talk" the guys in the channel would hear you only whey you hold a button down.

If there is any down side it would be players fault... such as poor communication etiquette, or just the fact of an old Dwarf with an Brooklyn kids accent. I would love to learn more about effective TeamSpeak etiquette, and I would love to learn how to apply a filter to your mike input. In SWG I always thought a light touch of static would be much more realistic than the pristine voice of a 15 year old.

Something like TeamSpeak would be great with JtL I think.

AFAIK you don't need to rent a server. You can run a serer on your own machine.
I have an old Celeron that I use for those kind of things, I hook it up to my local area network where we share the DSL connection and set up a server.

But I won't be playing WoW :?

Please clarify, I can run it on my own computer while I am running WoW or another app? I understood I could host my own just thought it had to be a dedicated server.

The nice thing about my renting server space for everyone to use would be that it should be up close to 24/7 for anyone that wanted it.

I may in the next week or so try out this product. Anyone want to chat that has the software or is willing to download the software and also has the necessary headphone/headset whatever is required?

I still am looking into this, as I spoke with a CoH group that uses teamspeak constantly. They said it is a great program with many tools for users to set up the program to do whatever they want. Some can use press to talk, others can use voice activated or even an open mike. Users can be muted. There are plenty of ways to tailor this to you.

I will be doing a test in the next week or two. Does anyone have the gear already so we can set up a server and test it out?

I plan on picking it up for my BF squad. They use it and swear by it.

What's the best time for you guys to do this. I have two tests in mind. One is on a server you rent time on. They offer a free trial. The advantage is there is far less of a chance of confliction with the game you are running.

The second test will be run from my own computer while running a game in the background as well. I can certainly run the original Bf1942 as you guys have that or hopefully I will have my CDKEY problem with Battlefront worked out by then.

The solution I think I am interested in is the rental server. It would be available 24/7 for everyone to use. Of course if the program is really not machine intensive that may be overkill.

No battlefront at the moment as for time hard to say right now, I know tonight I will be at a $30 a plate dinner I got "invited" to (invited as in they gave us free tickets and my wife REALLY wants to go). Saturday and Sunday I will be out most of the day.
