Post subject:  Hurricane Isabel

In case you haven't heard, a rather large hurricane is headed straight for the Eastern US seaboard. More specifically straight towards me, and towards Arindel and Rocklar too.

I just thought I'd let you guys know in case you don't hear from me for a couple days or so because my power went out. Last hurricane that came near here (1999) caused some bad flooding and my school (ECU) was exacuated. I'm not too worried about it all as long as I can still get on the internet.

This one looked to be a big one, hope it weakens in the colder waters your way.

Get your gas, batteries and bottled water now.... If you wait till it hits land you will wish you didn't. Last minute lines are the worst

In Louisiana we eat hurricanes for breakfast... :P

I hope you have stocked up on water and and ready made food and board your windows in case it looks like the eye is heading for you.

Oh, and Rom, is this going to interfere with your Ultimate Frisbee or has the season ended or yet to begin? :D

Well I am stocked up on chips, pop, and some other foods. I have a full tank of gas in the car, a camping stove, and a grill with plenty of lighter fluid and charcoal. Maybe I should get water and more dry foods though.

I should be ok for entertainment. I have a large stack of unread Maxim magazines and my roomates and I are going to buy an inflatable raft tomorrow to cruise in if it floods :). I'm also gonna pick up a big bottle of wine tomorrow too. (Gotta be ready for the Hurricane parties too. ;))

Royur, I actually dont play Ultimate anymore, just a spectator now. :(

You sound pretty set. You got a flashlight to go with those Maxims? It'd be a shame to not be able to see them.

I'm not scared, but cable will most likely go out  (if not power).

And the last one was a double wammy. We had (Dennis?) come through and saturate the ground, then Floyd came a week later (???) and just ripped out all the trees and cause flooding that you wouldn't believe (though most of you probably saw the pictures).

Exacuated?! Woah. That sounds terrible. I'm gonna go buy me some water.

Yeah, DC is panicking like crazy, too. Everyone's already talking about shutting down the city for a few days. Annoying. But, I'm gonna be hellapissed if they turn off the Internet.

Hey, that was all the Canadian's fault. And, aren't Canadians just evolved French people?

That insult was going to be much meaner and longer, but I restrained myself. Painfully. :)

I'm in Baltimore right now but I'm from Los Angeles, and having never been in a Hurricane, but seen Typhoons and experienced many an earthquake, I say: "Bring it on Isabel!! Let's see what your made of!!!"

You can store your own water too. Run your washing machine with hot water and some diswasher cleaner or a tiny amount of dishsoap (I can't stress tiny enough here). Then fill it to store several gallons of drinkable water. Clean and fill a tub for the same. I fill the laundry machine for drinking and the tub for dumping into toilets and other uses. This got me through 4 days once in New Hampshire with nary a panicked visit to the store. This was for a blizzard but still worked. I am right in the flight path of this storm in Virginia as well but a lot can change in five days. Wish us luck.

I'm hoping my lady doesn't go into labor in the middle of the hurricane (granted this would be six weeks early, but ya never know!), especially with me out of town...

Talon...has SC been getting it worse than NC lately? It seems like such an insginficant state that it must pass my notice :P.

Big Yak, lucky you...then again a day off from work would be playing with my munchkin (so I'd get the 2 hour nap to play +/- 30 minutes).

Maybe they'll send us home early...I doubt they will

Connor! You're in Baltimore and you didn't give me a heads up???

So sad...what are the odds that two chefs from Chilastra could meet up in RL and meet.

Ah well...the storms has been rather...disappointing...but the beer goes down just as smooth....

I was hoping it would hit Virginia decently. Everyone's paniced and no one's driving on th roads... there's about a 5mph wind, at the very most, and it's just gusts. Then again, normal rain is pretty harmful to everyday life.

Don't worry, all. We here in Virgina have been eating a ton of chilli. I've personally contributed over 100 units of Hot Unknown Inert Gas into the atmosphere. This has been creating the much-needed warm air front that's slowing Isabel down. Feel free to join in. Taco Bell helps, too.

Well, it did hit my house. Almost. A ton of rain, and a smidgen of wind... I went for a walk across the golf-course behind my hosue to a friend's, and when I got home, the 200ft tall massive oak was fallen. Had it gone 20 feet to the left, I'd have been crushed if I were on the computer... thank god I have the will to be able to stop playing SWG.

Have you ever seen the movie Donnie Darko Orbie? If you have, how freakin' weird is that!? If not, go rent it, and I mean really soon. It will freak the shit out of you. (sorry for language but that is too weird if anyone has seen the movie)

Great, I tells ya.

Hurricane has passed, the sun is out, the downtown DC streets are lined with tree branches. No work today.

Interesting fact about Donnie Darko: Every scene where they are in school or in the theater was filmed at my high school, and that's my high school theater.

Fun huh?
