Do you guys do any serious investing or trading? I am looking for ideas, spreadsheets, strategies, whatever. I already have a financial advisor, but I am also going out on my own to see if I can beat him at his own game. I have dabbled in the past, and done alright, but I am looking to improve and grow. Let me know we can put our heads together and share knowledge. |

Cyrus, I've never done more than my 401(k) which never had a big balance. I completely cashed that out, though. I'm not a fan of doing any kind of trading in this environment and in this market. I think you have better odds at the Black Jack tables in Vegas. I don't know of any particular site for tips or strategy, but I've always been impressed with the reason and the legwork done by Karl Denninger on The Market Ticker: www.market-ticker.org He does have an investor's forum where he provides info and people discuss trades and strategies and that sort of thing, but I think its a subscription side to his site. I just read the Ticker itself, and its more commentary and blogish. If you are looking for somewhere to start, though, it may be worth looking in to. |

Thanks Cetera. I did some quick trading between Oct2008 and Jan2009 making 70%. Then I bought and held dividends stocks ever since then making another 28% between Feb2009 and today. I am not too happy with the last 18 months, but I have been way too busy to get active. My 401k is about flat across the same span of time. I have grown to dislike mutual funds because I have managed to outperform them time and time again yet they are supposed to be the professionals. I think the mindless contributions each pay period are part of the problem. D and I max out our 401Ks just to lower our taxable income. Now I want to get active again, manage my dividend plays a little closer and maybe speculate on some tech. I would like to get better at reading graphs: identifying entry and exit points. I want to develop a strategy and be disciplined about it. Lastly I want to treat it like a game, graph, chart, plot, plan, with the same intensity I have before a MMO launch. |
