Today I attended an AAA Driving Safety Class here at Camp Lemonier with several Army and Navy guys. It was the typical half day driving safety class; however later that afternoon they loaded 20 of us on a buss and took us to a dirt course deep in the desert. It was twisty track delineated with cones… on the first pass we had to take it slow… but afterwards we had to drive it very fast… like we were being chased. We practiced popping the emergency break to power slide into tight turns at high speeds, and we practiced slaloming (zig-zagging) cones at high speeds. We practiced driving very fast off road, over rough terrain, in deep powdery sand, and transitioning off road to on road and vice versa. The track was very hard, but it was a whole lot of fun.
