Whether you're the Fool or the Fooler, let's hear about pranks from yesterday.

Here's mine:
Selvan, a coworker, and I are teaching a class of 24 students this week and I was able to get him pretty good on an April Fool's joke with the whole class as witnesses.

We use a digital projector to display presentations and the various pieces of software we use as we teach. I swapped the background on the instructor laptop, which is connected to the projector, with the following background:

I hid the desktop icons and the taskbar which really made it look like something was seriously wrong with our $3000 projector. As soon as he walked in the room, I asked him if he'd had any problem with the projector the day before and if he'd given it time to cool down after he used it. I could see him sweating it a bit as our manager had recently made a big deal out of having to repair/replace equipment. We went back and forth for a bit suggesting what could have possibly have gone wrong and some of the class (which watched me as I swapped the wallpaper) were starting to chuckle. Selvan suggested we just rent a projector from the hotel. I reminded him it would be pretty expensive to do that, even if "we did it just until April 2." He caught on immediately at that point, sitting down and putting his face in his hands repeating, "I didn't just fall for that! I didn't just fall for that!" The entire room, laughing out loud at that point, starting clapping. Selvan, of course, has sworn revenge. :)

Some coworkers and I (we are all software developers) came up with an idea to prank call tech support. We rigged up the software to give a fatal error message saying all data was deleted when you hit a certain button.

My coworker Nick called Tech Support complaining about this scary error message he was receiving, and the first guy caught on pretty quick. Then we tried to get the other guy, Steven. Nick called Steven posing as a customer and had him going for about 20 minutes. When they finally got the webex up to take a look at the error message after lots of "how do you spell slash?" questions from Nick, Nick had hampsterdance.com on his screen and was commenting on it... quite funny. He brought up the software and clicked the button, getting the fatal error message. He then started freaking out and getting upset. Steven on Tech support was freaking out too, until he hit OK on the message box to reveal a new message saying "April fools!".

It was pretty good and I was impressed with Nick's ability to be extremely funny without laughing.

First off, very nice Rocky. But in all fairness he will need to wait until next year to get you back. lol.

In the Tech Support department I work in we have seen most of our senior Techs move on to other positions in the company, mostly R&D, which has left only a few seasoned personnel, and then a whole lot of Green techs. So right after the Lead in my area went to lunch I sent out an email from our Support Supervisor's mailbox stating that we were having a Going Away party for my lead at our usual after hours pub.

Most of the department fell for it, and there was an aubible buzz going around the department. The few who were skeptical got sucked in when my lead came back from lunch, read the email, and decided to play along and reply to all stating that he had hoped the Cat wouldn't get out of the Bag for another day or two.

The best part was that I was able to make everyone think the supervisor did it, even though he has NO sense of humor!
