Well hello there everyone: old faces and new, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's been quite a while since I've been around. I'm glad to see Avian thriving and still going. I now wish I would have hung on and stayed around. SWG was a great disappointment to me, and I let that disappointment sour in all my SWG relationships. It was also a very trying time in my life. There were employment issues, still pretty newly married, I think Grace was on the way at the time I dropped off. I did very little computer gaming for a while. I got involved with Runescape for a bit. It's a game I could play from anywhere without having to install game files (just a java app). Spiff Antilles contacted TASP at some point and then contacted me. I ended up working with him on designing crafting for a game he was doing, but dropped out of that after a few months due to my work schedule (and having two toddlers). During that time, I played some Horizons to see how they were doing crafting, and got hooked on that game. There are a lot of flaws in Horizons, but the community at large is very mature and it was/is a very enjoyable game. I'm still playing Horizons. I had planned on doing crafting only when I first started, but got the adventure bug and now have a pretty decent set of adventuring skills. I'm also very wealthy from some ludicrous business deals. I hope that this is a resurgence of my presence in Avian. I'm really glad that you guys are still here. I really didn't expect Avian to expand past SWG or survive after it. I'm happy to see that I was wrong. Now to figure out where I can fit in. See you all around soon, Reng Kole |

Welcome back. Avian is still alive, but adrift at this point as no signle game has really captured our attention. we had a strong showing in WOW for some time, though that has come to a stand-still as the group demographics is geared more towards casual play and not the raid-centric design of the laterstages (read end game content) in WOW. We're still looking for a good crafting game. Any recommendations on a good one that is current (or still enjoyable) and cane be done with a reasonable group of people (meaning not 40+ people required). |

I love Horizons. Everything can be player crafted. You can solo almost everthing in the game (just a couple mobs that you can't). I love the multi-school aspect for adventuring. The company went through a lot of hard times, but was recently bought by some former employees and now updates and bug fixes are going on. As with all games, there can be a grind. However, with mostly soloing and very little grouping, I have the following under my belt: Warrior 100 / Cleric 100 / Druid 100 / Mage 100 / Beserker 85 / Spiritist 85 / Healer 49 / Paladin 0 (that's going to be my final and base school) For crafting: Jeweler 100 / Fitter 100 / Weaponsmith 97 / Armorsmith 95 and a few crafting schools ranging from 30 to 70. I have a decent sized plot with nice structures: a beginner Jewelry shop, beginner Blacksmith shop, Saris Medium House, Saris Small Hut, 20? Tier 2 silos, 1 Tier 3 silo, 8? Tier 4 silos, and 3 Tier 5 silos. Most of my silos are probably empty, but I do have a storage of about 30,000 T5 gems in a few. Plot reclamations (reclaiming plots from inactive accounts) are going to happen soon for the first time in about 2 years. I have my eye set on a large plot, so hope to be moving soon. The economy is basically non-existent. Potions and food sell decently well, but a lot of crafting is done for free or donations. I think that within a year, Horizons will see new life and new content. Regarding soloing, with the proper equipment, I can solo three named mobs at the same time: two named leaders of their mob type (Flamentus and Lorgus) and a boss type mob (Surtheid). However, wearing the same equipment, another nearby named mob (Ravager) can take me out in one hit. I LOVE playing around and creating blighted equipment: jewelry and armor. Although blighted weapons is what originally started me into crafting blighted items, I don't bother with weapons anymore. It's rare to create a blighted weapon that can match a good socketed weapon. Well, I have to get back to work right now. I'll check in later. |

Reng, welcome back! The guys had a RP sentence game that featured your name just a few weeks ago. Many of us have similar stories: work, children, weddings, and games that could have been better. Several of us played EVE and WoW. We beta tested WoW, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Roma Victor, and many other games. The gang is eagerly watching the development of a few games. I am working in Djibouti Africa, long hours and satellite connections do not complement gaming. I haven’t been following the development of anything, but I am relying on the guys here at Avian to scout them out, and get me on the right track when I come back home. |

Welcome back I heard some good and some bad things about Horizons, crafting being one of the good things. Didn't the payment system get totally fubar'ed? or am I thinking of another game? |

The real me again. I reset my email address and the account was disabled until I could click the link for activation. The email was lost for awhile, but I found it. The spam filter on my mail server was the culprit. www.istaria.com community.istaria.com There is a 14 day free trial. Lots of game info at horizons.gamersinfo.net Check out horizons.gamersinfo.net/schools/schools.php for the different schools. I'd post a screenshot of my plot, but I don't have a place to put it right now. Yes, Horizons did have some major billing (and other) problems under different ownership. All that and more has been straightened out and done better within a couple months of the new company taking over. |

Welcome back Reng. I remember Spiff looking for some contact info for you a while back. I think I only had an old MSN contact for Tasp I could give him. So glad he managed to get you. |

Wow! Welcome back, Reng! I'm one of the few still sucked in by World of Warcraft, though over the past week, I've been playing more Call of Duty 4 MP than anything else. I'd heard of Horizons but passed it over because of that (apparently initial) bad press. I will definitely check out the 14-day trial. Other games that I'm watching include Conan and Darkfall Online, though Darkfall is losing it's appeal to me on a regular basis since very little real information is released about it. Conan, on the other hand, is pretty exciting. I think most of the game, for me, will hinge on this new combat system they're using. Crafting doesn't seem particularly in-depth or elegant but then again, I've seen little real videos of it. Great to see you again! |

I play Horizons on a HP Pavillion dv2000 laptop. 1GB RAM, 128 MB Video RAM, dual core 1.5Ghz processor. I keep my graphic detail set low (which isn't that bad) and it works fine. The two problems that I have is satellite Internet at house (loading is a little slower) and after being logged in for a few hours (and the more porting that I do) the computer tends to run slower. There has been a lot of recent work on how the graphics load and those changes should be coming to live servers soon. |

Welcome back Reng. I, like others here, have cut back the WoW tiem considerably due to real life. Just got back from my honeymoon this morning actually. Me and a few others play exclusively Horde characters on a PvP server (Maelstrom). If you haven't played WoW yet, by all means give it a try. Think there is a free 14-day trial out there. Awsome to see you around again and hopefully there will be a game soon where the whole Avian community gets together again. |
