Same here and I did put the name Avian as the guild name. We should probably all do that and maybe the more peopel signing up the better for us.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE™: SHADOWS OF ANGMAR™ REACHES ALPHA

Over 125,000 Players Registered for Upcoming Beta Program

WESTWOOD, MA – AUGUST 3, 2006 – Turbine, Inc. announced today that the highly-anticipated The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ has entered the alpha phase of development. The first and only massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) based on the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings Online™ will allow players to explore Middle-earth™, the most famous fantasy world of all time. The company also announced that over 125,000 fans have already signed up for the Beta Program.

“Turbine is committed to delivering the most immersive and accurate online Tolkien experience possible and today is a major milestone as we realize our vision for this mysterious and exciting world,” said Jeffrey Anderson, president and CEO of Turbine, Inc. “With over 125,000 fans already signed up for the Beta Program we are on pace to be one of the largest beta communities in the industry.”

Since announcing the start of sign-ups for the Beta Program at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in May, over 125,000 people have already registered. In response to increasing demand, Turbine is expanding the Beta Program to let more players participate. Turbine will be inviting tens of thousands of people into the Beta Program over the coming months. Players who wish to be invited should sign-up for a chance to be selected for the Beta Program by visiting http://www.lotro.com/betasignup.

The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar invites players to join in an epic adventure -- exploring a massive online world while defending the lands of Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron. Players of all levels will explore incredibly detailed realms and join familiar characters in an evolving and persistent re-creation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved world. They will face the dangers Frodo and the Fellowship left behind when they began their epic journey to destroy the One Ring. Gamers can adventure solo or choose from thousands of players online to forge their own fellowships, as they face the hideous monsters and minions of evil, fight epic battles to defend Middle-earth, and immerse themselves in the greatest adventure of our time.

ok just watched the video.
Is it me or did they highlight the wrong thing here? This alone makes me not want to play the game.
All they showed was player combat. Player combat that looks -just- like EQ2 player combat.

People who will play this will play be becuase they want to play the books and see the images they saw in the movie. Highlight the lore not the gameplay.

This looks like just another hack-n-slash. The graphics were great. the sound and music excellent but what makes this different from EQ2? WoW? or any number of other games? Lore lore does, show me than, build my imagination of playing in that world and I would be interested.

Sorry, I pass.

Guild Beta Invitation Promotion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As part of a special promotion, we are going to be sending an additional round of Beta invitations to the top 100 guilds who sign up the most people for the LOTRO Beta. The top 10 guilds will automatically receive up to 100 Beta invites and the remaining top 90 will get up to 20 invites! This special invitation will occur sometime after Beta 1 and is in addition to the Beta invitations already planned.

Keep in mind that even if your guild isn’t one of the top 100, you still increase your chances of getting into Beta by getting your guildmates to sign up. During each Beta invitation period we’ll be sending out additional invites to people in guilds. So each time one of your guildmates gets invited, you have an extra chance of getting in as well!

Whether your guild is large or small, with each new sign-up from your guild, your chances of getting into the Beta increase. The best way to encourage guildmates to sign up is to post the LOTRO Beta URL (http://lotro.turbine.com/betasignup) on your guild forum or e-mail it to your guildmates directly. Make sure they enter your guild’s name in the appropriate section during the sign-up process.

/what others have said...

if you aren't 1st to market you better damn well have some serious differentiators to pull people into your game (like lore mentioned above) otherwise why would people leave their heavily invested chars in eQ2 and WoW or even DDO?

As the great orator Homer Simpson said in the 20th century,"BORING!"

From my limited perspective, I have noticed the same thing you guys are saying.

In addition I am also concerned about the classes. I fear there is not enough difference between the classes to set them apart. I know they have (some) differences, but after reading through them I get the feeling that they are too similar and generally boring compared to each other.

Anyone else feel the same way?

yes I do feel the same way and I ws really looking forward to this game.

It's a long setup process if you do. 2gig client, then another hour worth of updating from the launcher. Once in, it runs remarkably smooth. And it's pretty unfinished too with video placeholders and such. But, a very scenic and beautifully done landscape and towns. I only got to play for about 30 mins (I had to watch South Park of course). I'll keep my opinions open about it. I'm not expecting anything revolutionary in game play change, just a game that's fun to play.

I know I said I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary, but man, what a bore. This game is just another elf/dwarf/human boring clone of EQ2 and WoW. Woopeee, like the world needs another one of those. The graphics are very nice, even with the lo-res client out right now. But that's about it. The quests are unoriginal and unexciting (how many MMO's are going to have the player kill 6 diseased animals as a quest). Combat is quite boring. Crafting has been sidelined as another secondary skill a la WoW. EQ2 crafting I think was more critical to the game than this, and that's saying a lot.
I just don't see how and why this game is being made the way it is. Other than the name, there is not much else going for this antiquated game system. The world does not need another EQ2/WoW. In fact, I'll go out on a limb here and say that the world doesn't need another fantasy wizard/hunter/warrior MMO for a loooooooong time.

Author:  Aranarth [ Mon Oct 09, 2006 9:50 am ]
Post subject:

EQ2 crafting is light years better than LOTRO crafting, and the combat system and choice of professions is infinately more entertaining.

And Im not playing EQ2 any longer................

IMHO it is a WoW clone in a ME wrapper, and right now WoW is a FAR better game.

I dont play WoW any longer either.

Yep OK its Beta, but from what I see right now, I can already tell I wont be playing it, and I have been faithfully following this game and Turbine for about 2.5 years now.

BIG disappointment for me anyway.

I'm going to give it another go this weekend with the new PC. I'll snag some screenies if you guys want, like char creation of anything else that may interest you. I'm not real concerned about the risk of losing my beta access for this turd.

One thing I do like is randomly, it seems, after completing a quest, a questionaire comes up. It asks you to rate things like quest difficulty at your level, satisfaction of the reward/xp, was it fun, etc. In the effort to make things more inspired and unique the 'fun' factor gets a resounding 1 each time.

I really like how the survey pops up most times after a "Go there and talk to Questy McQuestend" and it asks how "fun" that was lol.
