We have a lot of different private forums for a lot of different game in Avian, with numerous different access requirements.
In order to make managing these forum permissions easier (to take the load off the lazy Site Admins... or just me), we have tied them into our sites Character system.
We have three types of basic visitors on this site: Red Guests, Green Guests and Members.
A Red Guest is a forum user who is not a member of the Avian Gamers group or does not have any special guest status. Anyone who registers a username on the forums is automatically a Red Guest.
A Green Guest is a forum user who is not a member of the Avian Gamers group but does have special guest status.A Site Admin must assign a forum user as a Green Guest. This special status does not grant access to any default private forums.
A Member is a forum user who is a formal member of the Avian Gamers group. Each member will have their Section number listed with their username.A forum user can become an official Member by having an application accepted by the Board of Directors (BoD). Once accepted, the Member will be assigned a Section by the BoD Chairman, and will be given access to the default (non-game) private forums.
Only Green Guests and official Members may gain access to Private Game Forums.
To gain private forum access:
Once a forum user has been assigned as a Green Guest or Member, they will see an "Edit My Characters" link on the forums
In the character management page, users can create a character for any Game or Category supported by Avian.
Once a Character is created, it will be shown on the Character Management page...
...and on forum posts (characters created under a Category will not be shown on forum posts)
Once a character has been created, it is up to the Guild Leaders for that particular Game to assign a Rank to the user. It is this assigning of Rank by a Guild Leader that will grant access to any private forums linked to it.
A Guild Leader will only have the option to assign a Rank to a user, if that user has an appropriate Character listed.
It is ultimately up to the Leaders of individual game Guilds to decide if you are to get access to their private forums.
So...
- Get assigned as a Green Guest or Member
- Create a Character for the Game or Category you wish to have private forum access to
- Wait for the Guild Leader to assign a Rank
