I've got some bushes in front of my house that, as of yesterday, decided to bloom like crazy. I have no idea what kind of bushes they are, as they were planted before I came to live in this house, and for one reason or another I've never seemed to have the time to actually research them. They've got small red flowers, and the bees are working overtime on them. Well, that part isn't great, since I am allergic to their stings.

My house is about 350 feet back from the road, and people have been stopping on the street to check them out. They really look that good.

What? Did you think I was going to post about politics?

I'm much more interested in YOUR Bush than in MGJ's. I really hope YOUR Bush does well Angus.

I'm a big supporter of bushes. I recently trimmed the ones out in front of my house.

On an completely unrelated subject, I came across a couple of johns yesterday in the airport. They were so full of crap they were overflowing - disgusting! I chose to have absolutely nothing to do with them. I hope everyone else chose to do the same for their own safety.

My wife doesn't really tend to the bush she's growing....I asked her to trim it, because generally I like when the bush is trimmed up nice. So maybe this weekend I'll see if she'll let me trim her bush for her.

This thread is lovely. It confirms that some of you guys are completely insane.

With that being said, my bush is evergreen. If you mess with it too much, wasps come out and hunt your ass down. It is so thick in my bush that I cannot find the wasp nest. So I just don’t mess with my bush, and respect its space when I mow my grass.

The wasps and my bush seem to get along fine, but the ants who tried to build a nest at bushes base were not so lucky. I poisoned them because they did not have a building permit. Most of the ants died, and the survivors have moved to other places in my yard. I just keep hunting those ants down and poison every new nest they make.

You know, the craziest thing happened last night...

Some crazy madman came by my house and tried to cut down my bush. Kept mumbling something about the "wrong kinda bush, on the wrong street, at the wrong house." I don't know what that was about. Anyway... my neighbors all saw him raving and running around my yard with a saw and decided to stop him.

This morning he's still sitting in the middle of my yard mumbling to himself, but the neighbors made sure he couldn't harm anybody, they took his saw away from him. Wonder how long he'll keep sitting there? Kinda pathetic really.

It;s my understanding that Bush was leading in the state of Ohio, but there were enough unregistered voters (that registered) to make the difference between the 2 candidates a legitimate "we need to count these ballots in order to determine who wins"

Whoever wins Ohio, wins the vote as you need 270 electoral votes to win (and Ohio holds 20. The person who wins the state wins all elecotrla votes i nthat state even if they win 51% - 49%)

Also, Kerry will/may puclically conceeded the election to Bush...go check CNN

No doubt. Clear Bush win.

Bush beat the popular vote by over 3million... but that doesn’t mean anything other than the will of the majority.

The last states Bush won were Ohio then Arizona which put him over the top, plus he is ahead in a few of the slow counting western states that are too close to call. Those slow states should they stay as they are, will extend his EC point total into the 280s... all he had to do was tie with 269 EC points. He is sitting with 274 right now which is a win.

On top of this, the republicans increased their majority in both the House and the Senate.

Perchance his candidate may not have won? But I'll let him speak for himself...

On another note, this is an excellent site that I followed in the weeks before the election (as well as election night). It also has great articles that explain the electoral college process, give pro's and con's about the electoral college, etc.

Enjoy.

Is there a rule that states if you lose an election you can't run for president again? The news over here suggested that Kerry would never be president, could he not run again in 4 years time?

He could run again, but once you lose an election like this, it's kinda impossible to win because you lose face with the public. The Dems won't run him again either.

Correct there is no rule like that.

Reason Kerry is likely never to run for president again is the wounds have been dealt; lines were drawn in the sand. To win again, the democrats will need to find a candidate that will win them more votes next time and that means finding a person without the political baggage that a loosing presidential candidate inevitably gets. They would need to find a guy that will make people rethink their political affiliations, and that is extremely hard to do if you use old faces… you need a new face to do that.

There are several parties, but only 2 strong ones.

When I voted in Louisiana, there were 6 or 7 different guys to choose from. Each guy was from a different party.

Look here, this site lists many... many I have heard of.... several I have not. http://dir.yahoo.com/Government/U_S__Go ... s/Parties/

What's the general political stance of each of those two? It seems to me that the democrats are a "People's Party" tending towards left-wing politics (do you use left and right-wing terms over there) and the Republicans are more conservative, capitalist type politics. Is that about right?

Correct about the left and right speak.

Correct about democrats being left and the Republicans being right.

The key, IMHO is to get the people who are in the middle or center. Clinton did that well, so did other presidents. Any time you are marked as being too far left or right you will have trouble. The Democrat leadership has moved much farther from the center over time... their base I do not think is as far left as their leadership... and that has been hurting them slowly over the last 16 years.... thus the reason they are loosing their grip on the House and Senate, and why they have been loosing their grip on the Southern US.

Yes, that's about right. There's starting to be a blur between the two though. The left wing has gone SO far left, that they've alienated a good portion of the lower middle class of working folk who still hold to strong morals. Strong morality is now claimed more strongly by the rightwing conservatives.

I've been thinking over here that the best government would be a colleition of the left and right sides. It always seems that the centre is the best place to be but the hardest place to get to!
